We are thrilled to announce that UWS Nepal, led by Country Director, Surya Karki, has been named the winner of the prestigious Impact Hero 2024 Award
From a pool of 96 exceptional changemakers across 26 countries, we’re delighted that Surya’s and UWS Nepal’s groundbreaking work in providing quality education to children living in remote and marginalised parts of Nepal have been chosen as this year’s winner. This award recognises their potential to drive transformative change, inspiring future generations and fostering a sustainable and inclusive future.

This extraordinary achievement is a testament to UWS Nepal’s unwavering commitment to transforming the lives of children in Nepal.
Impact Hero Project
Nepal faces a significant education crisis, with nearly 30% of students dropping out before completing primary school.
To date, UWS Nepal has established 82 elementary and middle schools, providing education to over 14,000 children in rural areas of Nepal. Their holistic approach, including teacher training, menstrual hygiene workshops, and school meal programs, has led to a remarkable 92% completion rate in their partner schools.
Building on this success, in 2024, UWS Nepal began initiatives to broaden its educational programs in partnership with the Nepalese government to children beyond UWS schools to deliver national-level change.
The Impact Hero Award will fuel their ambitious plans to construct 10 new UWS schools in western Nepal and implement a comprehensive three-year quality education program in 10 government schools. This initiative aims to benefit at least 10,000 students over a span of three years.
