UWS Gala 2025

On October 8th, the UWS Gala 2025 lit up Claridge’s Ballroom in London with hope, generosity, and laughter.

Hosted by renowned comedian and impressionist Rory Bremner, the evening brought together supporters and partners from around the world, raising over £585,000 to transform education in Madagascar, Cambodia, Nepal, and Myanmar – giving every child the chance to write their own story.

The funds pledged will support UWS in building a brand-new school in Namatoa, Madagascar – and to reach thousands more children across UWS programmes in Cambodia, Nepal, and Myanmar.  

Rory Bremner’s sharp wit filled the room with laughter and guests also heard from UWS leaders Peter Taylor, Binaya Bogati, Lia Larson, and Tim Gallico. A powerful video message from UWS Education Officer, Subina Dhungana in Nepal, reminded us why we were there – because every child, no matter where they are born, deserves the opportunity to learn, to dream, and to decide their own future.  

The live auction, led by Christie’s auctioneer Yü-Ge Wang, added unforgettable energy to the room. Guests bid on experiences ranging from fine dining to signed memorabilia and exclusive getaways – each contribution helping children take the pen into their own hands and begin writing their own stories. 

The evening closed on a high note with a spectacular live performance from Beverley Knight, whose powerhouse vocals brought everyone to their feet – a joyful finale to a night dedicated to changing futures. 

As the night unfolded, guests were invited to reflect on the power of education: that when children are given the tools to learn, they can write their own stories – and in doing so, rewrite the future for their families, their communities, and the world. 

Every classroom can spark opportunity. 
Every teacher can open doors to new worlds. 
And together, we can create a future where every child holds the pen to their own story.
